'The Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education (ACME), established in January 2002, is an independent committee which acts as a single voice for the mathematical community, seeking to improve the quality of education in schools and colleges. It advises Government on issues such as the curriculum, assessment and the supply and training of mathematics teachers. '


'The Association of Teachers of Mathematics was established in 1950 to encourage the development of mathematics education such that it is more closely related to the needs of the learner. The ATM is governed by its General Council. There are about 4 000 members - mainly teachers in primary and secondary schools. It is a registered charity and all profits from subscriptions and trading are re-invested into mathematics education. '  

 

Welcome to The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications The Institute is the professional and learned society for qualified and practising mathematicians. Its 5000+ members work in industry, commerce, the public sector and education. A vigorous and expanding programme of activities enables mathematicians to enhance their skills and extend their knowledge whilst keeping up-to-date with developments and applications.  

 

'The Joint Mathematical Council of the United Kingdom was formed in 1963 to: ‘provide co-ordination between the Constituent Societies and generally to promote the advancement of mathematics and the improvement of the teaching of mathematics’. In pursuance of this, the JMC serves as a forum for discussion between societies and for making representations to government and other bodies and responses to their enquiries. It is concerned with all aspects of mathematics at all levels from primary to higher education.'  


The Mathematical Association:  'A selection of ICT Materials, Advice and Support produced by the MA and partners, available free to schools.  The MA and ATM have secured (limited) funding for a pilot in each of the North East, West Midlands, East Midlands and London regions in which support, in the form of in school CPD focussed on improving the effective use of ICT within mathematics, is offered at zero cost to the school'.   For further detail see here.

 

Wow!  An American site, but some very useful tools for KS1,2. 'The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives (NLVM) is an NSF supported project that began in 1999 to develop a library of uniquely interactive, web-based virtual manipulatives or concept tutorials, mostly in the form of Java applets, for mathematics instruction (K-12 emphasis). The project includes dissemination and extensive internal and external evaluation.'


'The Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is the UK's only professional and learned society devoted to the interests of statistics and statisticians. It is also one of the most influential and prestigious statistical societies in the world. The Society has an international membership, and is active in a wide range of areas both directly and indirectly pertaining to the study and application of statistics.'
