The Incorporated Society of Musicians:  'We are the UK's professional body for musicians, offering essential backup for today's musician.  The ISM exists to offer comprehensive back-up for all your professional work as a musician, giving the status and security of belonging to a professional body, and contacts with like-minded colleagues. We have authoritative views on issues ranging from education to ethics, and from intellectual property to broadcasting. We have agreements with the BBC, links with education agencies, and contacts with government departments.'

 

The National Association of Music Educators  'is the professional association which represents all those involved in music education: advisers, inspectors, consultants, teachers in schools, instrumental teachers, heads of instrumental services, lecturers working in teacher education and in conservatoires, community musicians, publishers and other retailers.'

'The Schools Music Association is recognised as a national voice for music in education.  We provide an essential network for music teachers, which serves as a vital link between those working with young people and the policy makers at local, regional and national level.  SMA officers meet regularly with representatives from QCA, DfES, GTC, TDA, DCMS and other statutory bodies to reinforce the place of music in education.  Unlike most subject associations, SMA regularly organises musical events for children and young people.'
