Vision?

The old Biblical declaration, "Without a vision the people perish!" is most apposite within the context of teaching and learning. Who owns that vision is critical. Unless the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) are all agreed, unless the Governors and Accountants of the school are also fully supportive and involved there is very little chance of real progress.

The Director of ICT - or whatever title he or she may hold - must have the total support of the SLT before there is any chance of establishing a Whole-school Policy for ICT.  Only then can we begin to establish an effective and synergistic delivery of ICT.

However, that support must not only come 'from above' but from every department and every individual member of staff within the establishment and also from parents. It is therefore patently obvious that however good the 'Director' might be, however knowledgeable, however dedicated etc, that person must also be a very effective team-leader, communicator and persuader!

The vast sums of money involved in the capital outlay, maintenance and continuous upgrade demand that their usage must be cost-effective. There is no room for equipment lying idle.

In the following pages I try to convey some of this enthusiasm and zeal for ICT along with suggestions, advice and useful tips that I've picked up over the last 45 years of teaching and learning!
