Other Tools - # - 2 Workstation Monitoring |
We all know far too well that some students will abuse the system and wander
'off-track' at the drop of a hat! So is there a place for
Workstation Monitoring by the teacher? At first I was somewhat unsure
about the use of 'Spying' on students' activities - but anyway, isn't that what we do all the time when we
stand by a student and discuss their work on screen?
Having tried several systems, I found that
NetOp gave me all the functionality
and ease of use I needed and much more besides!
Monitoring the progress of several students at the same time, particularly if
workstations are awkwardly located, is easy.
One of the nicest features I discovered was the ability to 'share' an individual
student's work to every workstation and let the others see how one student
performed a particular technique. Similarly, I could demonstrate a
particular technique on every workstation, which somehow appeared more 'real'
on their own screens rather than just demonstrating on the IWB.
Later versions of the software have included features by popular demand, such as the ability to temporarily switch off
Internet access if it is causing students to wander off-track.
For any who repeatedly wander off-track it is very easy for the teacher to send a 'Warning' message or even freeze their monitor
until due repentance has been exacted!
Quite simply, this is not an optional extra, it is a MUST!
